Madonna – Girl Gone Wild

After the lead single to her forthcoming MDNA record under-performed pretty much everywhere, Madonna has swiftly released the second single online, in the hope it will make a more successful attempt at leading the album. Girl Gone Wild, produced by Benny Benassi, is an even poorer attempt at reclaiming her pop crown than it’s predecessor, no mean feat. It’s problems are numerous.

The vocals are shrill and weak, which, although normally not a problem in the pop world, do however serve to question Madge’s title of ‘Queen’ of Pop.  The production is cheap and a little too familiar, inspiring unwelcome comparisons to ‘Revolver’, a bonus track on her last greatest hits record.

Give it a listen and make your own mind up:

Amelle – God Won’t Save You Now (Snippet)

Whilst the Sugababes, Britain’s most successful girl group on the 21st Century, are on hiatus, the three ladies have undertaken individual projects. Amelle, a babe since 2006, has been in the studio a few months now, and has released a snippet of what is presumed to be her first single. Produced by D-B-X, the track, titled ‘God won’t save you now’, is a dub-step infused ballad with some fantastic vocals.  It’s unknown when the full track will be premiered, but judging from the positive reception it’s had, it will probably be a case of sooner rather than later. Evanescence – My Heart Is Broken (February 26th)

After seeing it’s initial digital only release bumped from December to January, I’m told the second single from the bands self titled third album will be released in the UK at the end of February.  This of course will mean we get the single just as the US are getting the third one.; typical.

After returning with a bang in September with lead single  ‘What You Want‘, it looked like the bands four year hiatus would have little effect on the success of the new album. Despite heavy television airplay, it was ignored on radio, and stalled at number 72 on the UK singles chart. The album performed better, entering the charts at number three. Despite this achievement, it quickly dropped down the charts, due to the second single being moved from pillar to post by the label.

My Heart Is Broken was originally intended to be included on the Twilight: Breaking Dawn soundtrack, although it was cut from the track-list. A rock infused power-ballad, it does what previous attempt ‘My Immortal’ failed to do, which is to accompany the tender lyrics with guitars, without drowning them out. Three versions of the song are included with the single; album version, rock mix of the radio edit, and finally, a pop mix of the radio edit, a futile creation, given it’s radio play this month (19 plays on Kerrang radio…).

Third single ‘Made Of Stone’ should be here by 2017…

Digital Noise

A new Nicki Minaj track has leaked online, rumoured to be from her second album, due to be released in April. The album, tited Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, has already seen two promo singles released, with it’s first official single ‘Va Va Voom’ awaiting release.

Marilyn Monroe is a noticeably more vulnerable track than most of Nicki’s back catalogue, with touching lyrics, including a play on the famous sentence the blonde bombshell coined; ”if you can’t handle me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best”. Madonna Featuring…Britney Spears??

A leaked picture of the back cover of Madonna‘s new album has started rumors that Britney Spears will feature on opening track ‘Girls Gone Wild’. The authenticity of the cover has yet to be verified, but it’s certainly an exciting prospect. The two previously collaborated in 2003, on Britney’s smash ‘Me Against The Music’. Madge is appearing on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show today, where she is expected to either confirm or deny the rumors.

Sarah Michelle Gellar – Teen Horniness Is Not A Crime

In the 2007 apocalyptic fantasy sci-fi Southland Tales, Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s character took a humorous swipe at American pop princesses.

Her character, Krysta Now, was a porn star, reality star, had her own clothing line, an energy drink, and was about to release her debut album.

”Teen horniness is not a crime…open your heart and your mine…horniness is on the rise…”

”cos the numbers don’t lie, observe the nerds that shot up Columbine”

‘All your legislation can’t stop teen masturbation”

The film was panned by just about everyone, but it remains an extremely interesting film.

Skylar Grey – The Buried Sessions EP

Skylar Grey has the distinction of possessing one of the most recognizable voices in top-40 radio, yet a face that hardly anybody notices. The 24 year old American singer-songwriter is the writing mastermind behind Eminem’s ‘Love The Way You Lie’ and Diddy’s ‘Coming Home’, both huge hits on both sides of the Atlantic.

After spending the duration of 2011 in the studio, Skylar has announced that her debut album will be released sometime before summer 2012. The first single ‘Invisible’ was released late last year. To tide fans over, a three track EP has been released onto iTunes, featuring solo versions of the blockbusters she helped create.

  • Coming Home

Britney Spears – Rebellion (Full fan-made)

Artists often have hundreds of unreleased material locked away at their respective record labels. Few of these tracks however gain as much notoriety as ‘Rebellion’ by Britney Spears. In late 2006, as her personal troubles were starting to gain notice, she released a snippet of the track on her website. Dark lyrics and unprocessed vocals led many to believe she was about to unleash a lyrical shit storm on the record industry, and finally open up about her life and troubles. As well as writing a book and a play entitled Hollywood, a piece that openly called out various shady individuals, the album she was working on, eventually released as Blackout, was said to be her most personal yet. It wasn’t, and as of 2012, Rebellion remains unreleased. Check out the fan-made version below:
